Meet the Staff
Owner, Jeremy Dyer, spent the best part of his adult life searching for an occupation well suited to his 5 year quest for a BA in political science. However, after a 3 year stint in London's nightclubs and 12 years of managing pubs and restaurants in Melbourne, he decided that a "hospo" career was his fate. With his partner, Clare, they purchased the soon to be critically aclaimed Athelstane House in Queenscliff, Victoria in 2000. The chance to purchase the Governors Bay Hotel was presented in 2003 and the rest is history. Jeremy has a passion for good wine, loves drinking it in his time off and can't quite understand why the world loves New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc quite so much. Give him a nice oaked Hawkes Bay Chardonnay or a central Otago Pinot and he is happy as Larry. 
Owner, Function Manager and Executive Chef, Clare Neville-Dyer has a fine eye for detail that will serve you well in tailoring your event at the Hotel. A life long "foodie" Clare has a vast library of cookbooks and in conjunction with Jamie, updates our menus with a seasonal emphasis.
Much like her partner Jeremy, Clare never imagined a career in hospitality but she has accrued 35 years experience having owned several of her own ventures as well as managing Pizza Express, Wimbledon, Mexican Cantina, Wellington, Iain Hewitson's Last Aussie Fishcaf, South Melbourne, The Stokehouse, St. Kilda beach and Athelstane House, Queenscliff.
Head Chef, Jamie Cummings has an unbridled passion for food and is often seen poring over her vast array of cookbooks in which to test a new recipe. Jamie's big love (aside from her husband and Ma'a Nonu) is for desserts and sweets. She loves tempting other staff with homemade cupcakes and the latest treats from her oven.
Jamie's previous employment has been at Miseo's, Silk Road and Xocolatl.
Bar Manager Holly Dyer has returned to the hospitality industry after a stint as a Visitor Host at the Air Force Museum and prior to that, as Curator at Aigantighe Art Gallery in Timaru. She completed a degree in Art History in 1998 but began her on again off again career in hospitality working for her uncle, Jeremy at the Metropolitan Hotel as a 17 year old.
Holly's welcoming demeanor and organisation skills means she is a natural in this industry however, it is the world of art that will draw her back one of these days, we hope she's here for a longtime yet however.
Kitchenhand, Hugo Dyer. By now ,you may have the impression that there is a bit of a family theme going on here....and you would be right. Hugo, our second son, slots in part time when not studying year 12 at Christ's College, (we hope) chasing girls, playing guitar and on facebook (more likely). Hugo, to date has endured a long life of both parents working unsociable hours and is working on becoming an actor or rockstar, but never a publican.
Meet the Kids Caitlin MacEwan, Lucy Forrester and Libby Feeley are 3 of many local Governors Bay youth we employ in all sorts of pursuits from scrubbing dishes, preparing salads, running food and watering the flower pots. It keeps them off the streets!
