Earthquake Update

Unfortunately, unlike the first earthquake, this caused many casualties throughout the region and the region has suffered extensive infrastructural damage particularly in the CBD which will take some years to re-build.

If you are considering visiting Christchurch as a tourist, we encourage you to come and assist in the re-development of our great city and province. You will be made to feel more welcome than ever and the region still offers plenty, from fabulous ski fields in our winter, to the picturesque “French” village of Akaroa, the vineyards of Waipara and the thermal springs area around Hanmer Springs.

Christchurch is too small for us not to have been affected by these events and regrettably, Ross Bush a talented bricklayer who helped us repair our chimney after the first earthquake was himself, a casualty in the second.

The hotel suffered no structural damage in either earthquake being of mainly wooden and tin roof construction. We did, however, sustained major superficial damage which we are now nearly finished repairing (October 2011).  Our guest accommodation is the last area of repair and we expect to re-open our first floor wing on the 10th of November 2011.
